I am honored to have been a juror for the 2017 NJFuture Smart Growth Awards and am humbled by the talent and intellect of my fellow jurors on that panel. Thank you to NJFuture for including me.

It gives me great hope to see New Jersey Developers, Cities, Townships, and Boroughs catching up with some of our nation's most progressive edge cities around Smart Growth Issues. For years I've ridden New Jersey Transit on a number of different lines and have always wondered as I passed stop after stop that was underutilized or worst, in some cases vacant - Why isn't anything happening here? Our work in Tysons Corner, Hoboken, Willets Point, and abroad when I was with SOM created a strong foundation for the complex issues around designing for transit. It helped further the work for the Campbell's Soup Company in Camden, and fuels the thinking we carry into all of our projects around the world. Now that we've started New Jersey, let's see how far we can continue to push for a higher quality of life, for a higher quality of design in both architecture and the public realm, and for a more efficient/productive/carbon friendly daily ritual.
